I created the Digital Loom Project as a prototype for a therapeutic experience in which the user can play with various kinds of media and explore the way they interact. The video below describes the thought process for this project, the design of the interface, and a brief explanation of each kind of media. The media layers include visual imagery, drum set compositions, and atmospheric musical harmonies related to specific color schemes. The name Digital Loom refers to the connection between media and fabrics, especially with the interweaving of multiple patterns as each media layer interacts. I designed the interface of the digital loom to be a good mix of interesting, mysterious, and intuitive. I also have designed a series of variations on the visual appearance of the interface, which I envision as collectible versions of the Digital Loom, much like 'skins' for characters or tools in video games. I call each variation a 'Cloak', to match with the theme of textiles in the 'Digital Loom' overall concept. Users of the Digital Loom have reported the experience to be both calming and creatively inspiring. The project ties together my interest and experience in visual art, music, psychology, and design.
